Title: Yiling Patriarch (Yiling Laozu)
Canon: Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation/The Untamed/Mo Dao Zu Shi
Canon Point: post-novel
OU/AU/CRAU/OC: OU
Age: In this body, early twenties
World Information: Series Wiki but it's essentially an ancient Chinese fantasy world, complete with "magic" and zombies
Personal History: Wiki
Personality: 'Attempting the impossible is what he's good at.' - Madam Yu in The Untamed
Wei Wuxian possesses an energetic and mischievous personality, caring little for rules and decorum. However, beneath this carefree attitude, Wei Wuxian cares deeply for those he loves. His self-sacrificing spirit, ranging from being willing to be the one to get in trouble for friends, up to giving Jiang Cheng his Golden Core, does get him into a lot of hot water, though.
He is intelligent and inventive, questioning if there were ways to utilize resentful energy, and once he was without his Golden Core, harnessing that resentful power. It was only three months from the time he lost his Core to when he massacred an entire supervisory office. He has created several tools that the current cultivators now use, including the Spirit Attraction Flag and the Compass of Evil.
He has a STRONG sense of Justice. He will protect the innocent no matter their name or societal prejudice. However, this can lead to being ruthless when necessary, such as when he tortured Wen Chao to death or having the Qishan Wen Sect killed by the corpses of their own families and friends, and he did go a little overboard after the death of his sister Jiang Yanli.
But he does express regret and admits his faults, and strives to be a better person, one worthy of the noble Lan Zhan.
Due to his experiences as both hero and pariah to the cultivation world, he sees nuances where others do not. He only laid blame on Jin Guangyao for the things he actually did, and considered the actions of Nie Huaisang as being revenge, not justice, motivated. As someone who was the victim of unsupported rumors, he remains skeptical when he hears them.
Other bits: He was the fourth best looking young man in his previous life. His new body, that of Mo Xuanyu is one of Jin Guangshan's illegitimate sons, so is undoubtedly quite good looking as well, though slightly shorter and weaker. Wei Wuxian is working on the weaker part.
He is quite afraid of dogs, due to the trauma of fighting stray dogs for food while living on the streets as a child before being adopted by the Jiang clan.
He adores spicy food. The spicier the better.
He has messy handwriting.
CRAU developments:
n/a
Key themes:
Mischieviousness, Intelligence, Inventiveness, Problem-solving (especially if it involves doing the Impossible), and Justice over Revenge.
Main Motivation:
Do the Impossible, but also do right. He enjoys doing what others deem impossible, and will sacrifice what is necessary to protect those he cares about, and finding justice for those who need it to rest. He is not driven by revenge, however.
Skills:
Intelligence: Wei Wuxian was remarkably intelligent and imaginative. He was able to invent and expand the powers of Demonic Cultivation to kill an entire supervisory office in just three months. Moreover, he repeatedly displayed excellent deductive reasoning, such as his determination that the Goddess Statue was behind the soul-stealing events on Dafan Mountain, or that A-Qing used her eye color to feign blindness for her own safety. His intuition and careful observance of others led to his uncanny ability to discern other's intentions, as he quickly realized that Nie Huaisang was behind Jin Guangyao's downfall, that Young Master Qin was lying despite his need for help, why the ghost of the man who killed the Hook Hand needed to scream, and more.
Swordsmanship: While he had his Golden Core, Wei Wuxian was able to use his sword Suibian with high speed and skill. He has, since the events in the story, been working on regaining these skills as his new body does not have the same muscle memories that his brain does.
Archery: Wei Wuxian was a skilled archer. During the Qishan Wen Sect's grand Discussion Conference, he was one of the four winners in an archery competition involving juniors from many sects in the cultivation world. He has, since the events in the story, been working on regaining these skills as his new body does not have the same muscle memories that his brain does.
Paper Metamorphosis: Wei Wuxian was implied to have learned this dangerous dark arts technique during his first life. The technique allowed him to affix his soul to a piece of paper, and during the course of the Novel's events, he used it spy on Jin Guangyao.
Empathy: The mastery of this ability allowed Wei Wuxian to view the memories of ghosts or Fierce Corpses, including A-Qing, Nie Mingjue and Anxin.
Golden Thread Formation: Wei Wuxian used this ability to form a net with threads of spiritual energy. He could use this formation to capture enemies, such as Xue Yang, or to keep soulless people from attacking others, as he encased Wen Qing, Jiang Cheng, and Nie Huaisang in a net of golden threads to protect them. This is currently weaker as it does rely on the strength of his Golden Core.
Wide range of spells and talismans: Wei Wuxian utilized a wide variety of spells and talismans. For instance, he demonstrated a spell to create small butterflies made of light, the ability to freeze people with and without a talisman, and used another talisman to scour areas for spiritual abnormalities. Other talismans and spells landed spiritual attacks on powerful night-hunt prey, such as the Goddess Statue and Tortoise of Slaughter. Additionally, he demonstrated the ability to begin a fire from his own blood during his fight against the Tortoise of Slaughter.
Charisma: Wei Wuxian demonstrated the ability to quickly charm and befriend many of those around him through his talkative and mischievous nature.
Teaching: Wei Wuxian repeatedly taught the junior disciples how to think critically on their night-hunts, to the extent that they began relying on him too much.
Swimming: As he spent his youth as a member of the Yunmeng Jiang Sect, he was more proficient in swimming than most cultivators. Again, he would need to practice this in order to regain his previous mastery, but he's not bad at it.
Alcohol Tolerance: Wei Wuxian demonstrated the ability to drink large amounts of alcohol while remaining sober. This ability has not suffered in the slightest by his death and rebirth.
Hearing: Most likely because of his use of Demonic Cultivation, Wei Wuxian possessed a unique ability to hear nearby spirits. For instance, at the Stone Castles, Wei Wuxian was disturbed by the loudness of the ancestral hall, while Lan Wangji considered the place as quiet as a cemetery.
Musical Abilities: He is very good at playing the flute, which he uses to his advantage when he uses Chengqing to summon the dead.
Resilience: can survive under harsh conditions, hunt, can build or fix things to a lesser extent, can keep going even when severely wounded.
Cultivation: former practice: Deeply rooted in the Daoist mystic and Buddhist principles to achieve immortality, the higher level one’s cultivation is, the closer to immortality they are. The idea is to disperse, pacify, and cleanse spirits and demons and help them to move to the next world through talismans, music, incantations, and spells. Wei Wuxian's new Golden Core, courtesy of Mo Xuanyu, is not currently as powerful as the one he gave to Jiang Cheng. He is currently working on developing it, and he is highly educated in the theories and still uses them to the best of his ability.
Demonic cultivation: He created this type of cultivation of using the resentful energy of the dead instead of his own golden core to power spells, up to and including controlling corpses (the newer the dead, the stronger; also the more angrily the person died, the stronger).
Artist: Wei Wuxian is a talented artist, capable of drawing a “vividly realistic” portrait of Lan Zhan.
Item: A qiankun bag. This is essentially a bag of holding in their world. The items that would be in his qiankun bag would be:
1) His flute, Chenqing
Chenqing (陈情) could be translated as "setting forth one's thoughts and explaining one's actions." Chen (陈), in this context, means "to state/to explain/to elucidate," while Qing (情) means "reasons/circumstances/emotions."
2) His sword, Suibian, which cannot be drawn by anyone other than himself or Jiang Cheng.
Suibian is an agile sword with a white blade, with the characters of the sword's name engraved on it. The name means "whatever," or “(do) as one pleases.”
3) A set of black and red robes, with a red hair ribbon
4) Compass of Evil, a magical compass used to detect the presents of evil entities/spirits
5) Small stack of blank talisman papers

Notes: If he cannot be with Lan Zhan, he will be MOST put out.

Date: 2020-06-30 04:23 am (UTC)Wei Wuxian is willing to strip naked for you—though Lan Zhan might object.
Wei Wuxian puts the happiness of those he cares about over himself. He sacrificed his Golden Core because of how devastated his brother was to lose his. He left his Sect because the survivors of the Wen clan needed to be saved and no one else was willing to do it--which is a little bit of his self-sacrifice, little bit of his devotion to Justice. Has this gotten him into trouble--yes, very much so. He ended up with basically the whole world against him, but even then, his regrets were for those he felt he let down, not for himself. He is willing to go against the world if he feels it is the right thing. Though as a wiser man, he will do his best not to make Wangji suffer, so I think he will take that into consideration now, as opposed to in his first life. He's learned a lot about what it means to love, and to be someone's partner. So that is his line in the sand now. Lan Zhan.
The way I see his life going, if on the train, is to take advantage of the fact that there are people here who can help him regain his skills in the sword and bow. Back home, he is probably training in secret (he thinks *cough*rabbitsrathimouttoLanZhan*cough*), because he won't carry his sword in public until he is what he once was with it. That also means training so that Mo Xuanyu's Golden Core is much stronger. So he'll try to avoid using the resentful energy when he can. Though he won't shy away from it if he needs to (see above, re: self-sacrificing).
What regrets does he have? He has made peace with his past, for the most part. What happened to his sister and her peacock are at the top of his list, but he cannot change the past, he can only do his best to make sure those mistakes are not made again, and do right by his nephew. Even if the boy insists on having that dog. *shudder*
Look, I was quoting the wiki, in that one--but he murdered those of the Wen clan who were actively bullying, murdering, and terrorizing others, and protected those of the Wen clan whom others wanted to paint with the same brush even though they were not involved. He does not approve of the victors pursuing Revenge. Once Justice is done, it is done.
Other protecting he has done: He protected the Juniors in Yi City, he protected everyone he could on Dafan Mountain, in the web series he even protected the rabbits. Things he does not protect: the rules, and other people's sensibilities. If you have done wrong, he's going to call you on it.
He wants to be the best he can for Lan Zhan, though his idea of best and Lan Zhan's might not be exactly the same. :) He is helping train the Gusu Lan juniors, he will always stand by Wen Ning, he will do right by his nephew, even if his brother is being stubborn. I wouldn't say he intends to be a different person--more that he knows he has friends and family who will back him, and so he feels he can be more successful this time around, now that the poison has been leeched from the cultivator world. He's not above using his reputation, though, if he needs to!
Okay, a solo introspect-y piece, gotcha!
Wei Wuxian was sitting in the field of rabbits, chewing on a piece of grass, staring up at the clear sky, when Lan Sizhui found him. “A-Yuan,” Wuxian said with a smile. “What brings you out here?”
“With Hanguang-Jun not present at Cloud Recesses, it falls on us juniors to make sure the rabbits are fed,” Lan Sizhui said, smiling at him fondly. “Or have you already done so?” he asked, pausing before uncovering the basket he'd brought.
“No, no, I don't feed rabbits, they feed me,” Wuxian protested. Oh, sure he might have brought some vegetables with him when he'd arrived earlier, but they'd been for a snack, in case he'd gotten hungry. Not for the rabbits who had eaten them, definitely not.
Lan Sizhui smiled again and set the basket down and started parsing out the vegetables, to make sure each rabbit got some.
Wuxian laughed after a moment. “Seeing you amongst the vegetables, it feels natural somehow. Do we need to water you some more? You haven't grown much in the past few months.”
“What? No, no, Senior, I am just fine,” the other protested, turning slightly pink. “Though...do you think I might someday be as tall as Hanguang-Jun?” he asked.
“You never know what the future will bring,” Wuxian said with a grin, letting go of the rabbit he'd been holding so that it could get some more vegetables. “For example, I got shorter. Who could have predicted that, I ask?”
Lan Sizhui was quiet for a moment, his face growing serious. “Does...does that bother you, Senior?” he asked softly. “That you are in a body not your own?”
Wuxian shook his head immediately. Then he paused a long moment as he actually thought about it. “No. Honestly, it does not. While I was better looking, taller, and more athletic, at least I have a body now.” He stood up and stretched, then promptly sat back down again. “I very much like that part.”
“What...what was it like, being dead?” Lan Sizhui asked, curious.
“I don't know,” Wuxian answered with a grin. “I don't remember being dead. I remember dying. And, when I awoke in Mo Xuanyu's body, I remembered that I had been dead, but I have no memories of the time I spent dead. Apparently my spirit did not roam the world, as some do. I'm sure that shocked a lot of people, that my spirit wasn't out and about creating mischief while I was dead.”
“Jiang Cheng would have found it if it were,” Lan Sizhui said. Jin Ling had told him of his uncle's obsession with the Yiling Patriarch.
Wuxian had encountered a bit of that obsession himself. His relationship with his brother was...interesting still. The other hadn't quite forgiven him for everything he'd done, and had guilt for the things he'd done that he felt had nudged Wuxian onto his path, but Wei Wuxian did not blame him for the things he'd done. He'd made his own choices, to do his best to keep his promise to Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan to protect their son. It would have been nice if Jiang Cheng had backed him up when he had argued with Jin Guangshan, but it had not happened; his brother had been too new and uncertain in his leadership. Of course Wei Wuxian would have done it differently, but then he always did. He smiled at his son. “Did I ever tell you the motto of my clan, the Yunmeng Jiang Sect, that is?”
“Attempt the Impossible, isn't it?” Lan Sizhui asked. “Senior seems to embody that motto quite well.”
“Attempt, do, it's just a matter of actually trying, don't you agree?” Wuxian asked with a grin.
“Do you think,” Lan Sizhui asked thoughtfully after a moment, “do you think that someone might bring back Xue Yang the same way?”
“My coming back was not a weird accident or string of random occurances,” Wei Wuxian pointed out. “It was orchestrated from the beginning. I was chosen as the 'extremely villanous ghoul' by reputation alone, the mastermind actually respected me for my other fine qualities, you know.”
“You have fine qualities, Senior?” Lan Sizhui asked, cheekily. He ducked the carrot that Wuxian threw at him.
“Did I not literally piece together the mystery of Nie Mingjue's body?” Wuxian demanded. “And I did it while seducing Lan Zhan, to his uncle's eternal dismay,” he added with a grin. It was neither here nor there than Lan Zhan required absolutely zero seducing, simply a recognition that he had feelings for the stoic man and then acting on them. “Plus, I managed to save all you juniors...how many times? Let's see, there was Mo Village, Dafan Mountain, Yi City, Tanzhou...”
“Yes, yes,” Lan Sizhui said, waving his hand to stop the litany of times they'd needed to be saved. “We are still juniors, after all,” he pointed out. “But we are learning, with the help of Senior and Hanguang-Jun. For which we are most grateful.” He held his hands out and bowed respectfully, in fact.
To be honest, Wei Wuxian enjoyed teaching. Far more than he ever thought he would when he was a young, different young, man back in Yunmeng Jiang Sect. He did tease the juniors, but they were an excellent group of young men and were going to be fine cultivators someday. Several of them already were.
